I’m thrilled to announce that I have been awarded an RSA Residency for Scotland and will be working with An Lanntair arts centre in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis in May 2025. My project will involve research at a croft house, and shielings on Tolsta Mohr, experimenting with contemporary painting methods to explore personal and collective memory. Residencies for Scotland is an artist-led scheme which enables visual artists a period of research, development and production at partner venues across Scotland. This year, thirteen artists have been awarded a total of £55,000 for residencies at partner venues across Scotland. Funded by the…

Landscape of memory, 2020-24
Landscape paintings about memory and place created on location in Scotland and Italy. For details please click on the thumbnails. Summary 2020 – 2024 Landscapes of memory Memory is resonant, remote, temporary. These landscape paintings are about memory and place. They were begun on location, in the mountains of central Italy, the Isle of Lewis, Limekilns, Fife and Dumfriesshire in Scotland. Returning to the studio they become memory objects, an inquiry into what is seen and not seen, what I remember and what I don’t. They were exhibited as part of Eternal Return a solo exhibition at the Scottish Arts Club in…

Description Carrying materials, food and water and walking an average of 8 km a day I worked in the quiet, remote countryside around Banaguas but also worked further afield including 1200 m up in the abandoned hilltop village of Bergosa Working outdoors is integral to…

I work spontaneously, with limited materials to develop ideas quickly, in response to my surroundings. One of the most resonant places I worked was the hilltop village of Bergosa, a place that was forcibly de-populated in…
