Work from around 150 artists will be displayed in the biggest exhibition held in Scotland since the pandemic began.

Paintings, sculptures, prints, installations, photography and films will be on show at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh from November 1-23.

An open call for works was made to members of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) ahead its annual exhibition, attracting more than 1500 entries.

Marking the centenary of the birth of former SSA president George Wyllie, the exhibition will also feature works loaned by his foundation.Advertisement

Olivia Turner, joint president of the SSA, said: “Despite the recent challenges artists have faced, it has been so encouraging to see an extremely high standard of work submitted for the exhibition.

“The selection showcases the breadth of our membership along with international artists. We are delighted to be showcasing the next generation of Scottish artists alongside past presidents and established names.

“The work promises to be ambitious and is relatable to the challenges and experiences artists have faced over the last two years, with themes including Scottish identities, colonial impacts, isolation, sexuality, identity and diversity.”
