In summer 2023 I went to Aragon, northeast Spain on a self-directed residency. Based in the ancient village of Banaguas, outside of Jaca I went out daily on foot to work in the landscape. Carrying materials, food and water and walking an average of 8 km a day I worked in the quiet, remote countryside around the village and also spent a week 1200 m up in the abandoned hilltop village of Bergosa
Working outdoors is an important part of my practice. I work spontaneously, with often limited materials to develop ideas quickly, responding to my surroundings. Sometimes these works are further developed in the studio. A number of the paintings i made in Spain were part of my latest solo exhibition ETERNAL RETURN at Scottish Arts Club in April 2024.
